Online Driver CPC Courses – FAQ

1.How can I check my Driver CPC training hours?

You can check your recorded Driver CPC periodic training hours online using the official government service. This allows you to see how many hours you’ve completed, which courses you’ve attended, and your remaining hours for the current 5-year period. Before you can view your record, you’ll need to register with your driving licence number and postcode; a password will be sent to your address on your driving licence.

2. Can I repeat the same course within the 5-year period?

In general, you should not repeat the same Driver CPC course more than once in a single 5-year training period. The rules require a range of different subjects to be covered across your 35 hours of periodic training. If you do repeat a course without a valid reason, the DVSA may cancel the hours you gained from that repetition, which could affect your total training hours.

There are some valid reasons to repeat a course — for example, if you need remedial training, if there have been significant regulatory changes since you last took the course, or if the course contributes to maintaining another qualification. Always check with your training provider before booking a repeat module.

3. Can you explain the difference between National and International Driver CPC?

Yes. Under the current DVSA rules, there are now two paths to maintain your Driver CPC qualification, and the one you choose determines where your qualification is valid and how your training is structured:

  • International Driver CPC is the traditional form of periodic training and remains valid for professional driving both in the UK and across Europe. To maintain this qualification, drivers must complete 35 hours of training in 7-hour blocks (although a portion can include e-learning) every 5 years.
  • National Driver CPC is a more flexible option designed for drivers who operate only within the UK. It also requires 35 hours of training every 5 years, but training is delivered in 3.5-hour modules, and e-learning is permitted up to the allowed limit.

Key point: If you include only National training, your qualification will be valid only for driving professionally in the UK. To drive professionally in Europe (EU/EEA), you must complete 35 hours of International Driver CPC training.

4. What is a “Return to Driving” course?

A Return to Driving CPC course is a specialised 7-hour training module designed for drivers whose Driver CPC qualification has expired between 60 days and 2 years ago. Completing this course allows you to return to professional driving in the UK once your training provider has recorded the training.

After completing the Return to Driving course, you must complete a further 28 hours of CPC training within 12 months in order to remain qualified beyond that period. You can choose National, International, or a combination of training to meet this requirement depending on where you intend to drive professionally.

You can only take the Return to Driving CPC course once every 5 years

5. Can I use a phone to attend the course?

While a laptop or desktop will give you the best experience and full functionality, most of the course can be followed easily on a mobile device. You are also welcome to have multiple devices logged in at the same time if that helps.

6. Do I need a camera?

Yes, a camera is required to complete the ID check, which can be done on a phone if necessary. You will also need a camera for the rest of the course, as this is a DVSA requirement.

7. What happens if I lose my internet connection?

Don’t worry — temporary connection issues happen. You can simply re-join the session without any problem, as long as you’re not away for too long.

8. How do I receive my Driver Qualification Card (DQC)?

Once you’ve completed your 35 hours of periodic training and your details have been recorded by your training provider, your Driver Qualification Card (DQC) will be issued by the DVSA and posted to the address on your driving licence. This typically takes between 7 and 21 days, depending on processing times. If your card does not arrive within this timeframe, you should contact the DVSA.

9. What if I need extra help during the course?

You can contact our support team at any time via email or live chat. Trainers are also available during live sessions to answer your questions.

10. Are there any technical requirements for the course?

A stable internet connection, a laptop or desktop (recommended), or a tablet/mobile device with a camera. Ensure your browser is up-to-date and that you can access audio and video.

11. How long do modules take to complete?

Modules are available in 3.5-hour or 7-hour formats. You can choose the one that best fits your schedule. Certificates are issued at the end of each module.

12. Is the course recognised by the DVSA?

Yes. All our Driver CPC courses are fully approved and meet the legal requirements for professional drivers in the United Kingdom. We are a DVSA-registered training centre (Centre ID: AC002569), and you can verify our registration on the official JAUPT
